History

Racecourse Backpackers Hostel was the former Racecourse Horse Stables during the 1960's in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In 2003, the land was purchased by new owner, converted the horse stables. These horse stables had been remarkably refurbished and revived into its present backpackers/youth hostel/mini motel styled/budget hotel accommodation. The name "Racecourse Road Backpackers" was chosen.

In 2009, the property changed ownership, as the previous owner wanted to let it go to pursue other interests. The accommodation was further redecorated and Racecourse Backpackers Hostel was born.

In June 2009, the Racecourse Backpackers Hostel website went online but was in the "under construction and coming soon" stage.

On Saturday 5th December 2009, the Racecourse Backpackers Hostel website went live and launched for the very first time. Racecourse Backpackers Hostel has been in operation since then. The Racecourse Backpackers Hostel is the closest budget accommodation to the Riccarton Rotary Sunday Market and the Christchurch Airport. It is also an up and coming affordable accommodation for locals and independent travellers.
